Prime Minister Levi Eshkol told the Knesset (Parliament) yesterday that urban Jewish settlements would be established in areas “which we consider to be Israel” but said that Israel does not believe in “grabbing land” for settlement in the occupied Arab territories. He said, however, that the establishment of Nahal – para-military youth settlements – in uninhabited portions of the occupied areas was a security consideration. He said he would like to see 100,000 more Jews settle in Jerusalem but that he “shuddered” at some statements by public officials regarding settlement of occupied territories.
