The controversial question of whether or not to permit Arabs to erect memorial monuments to Jordanian war dead in East Jerusalem has been passed on to the Government, Mayor Teddy Kollek, of Jerusalem, announced today. He said if the Government approved the monuments, the Jerusalem city council would endorse its decision.
He said the matter was turned over to the Government in view of the storm of opposition aroused when it was announced last week that Mayor Kollek had given his approval to the Waqf, the Moslem religious and charitable organization, to erect monuments to Jordanian soldiers who were killed during the June, 1967 war.
