A plea to all Americans to contribute toward the creation of racial and religious harmony in the nation was addressed by President Richard M. Nixon to the National Conference of Christians and Jews on the occasion of Brotherhood Week which is being observed from Feb. 16-23. The President noted in his message that since its birth in 1928, the Conference “has persevered in its effective campaign to destroy the walls of prejudice that divide our nation.” He added, however, “We still have far to go… we have much to do to create a climate in which all may live in harmony and peace. To pursue this commitment to America, we need a new commitment from our people. For without it, no organization and no government can fulfill the goals we seek.”
