The chairman of the Jewish Agency urged French Jews yesterday to emigrate to Israel and told them that absorption facilities have been greatly improved in recent months. Aryeh L. Pincus, who also heads the Jewish Agency’s immigration department, spoke at a meeting of the France Aliyah Commission attended by 350 delegates from Zionist organizations whose members have pledged to settle in Israel within three years.
Mr. Pincus stressed that the first step toward successful integration into Israeli life was a knowledge of Hebrew. He urged parents and Jewish organizations to encourage Hebrew studies either at Jewish Agency classes or in French schools where Hebrew is an optional foreign language. He said Israel welcomed aliyah from France with its cultural and scientific heritage. Reports disclosed that 4,200 persons had immigrated to Israel from France last year and 6,500 more have opened aliyah files at the Jewish Agency offices.
