The El Fatah guerrilla organization is apparently filling an anti-Israel propaganda vacuum in the Gaza Strip created by Israeli quashing of the Palestine Liberation Front which had operated in the area. El Fatah has sent its operatives to the Strip from Jordan via the Sinai. Its activities are carried on mainly in the Strip’s southern section and are based in refugee camps.

The Arabs are smuggling in underground literature including books dealing with guerrilla warfare. Israeli security forces have discovered some 50 copies in Arabic of Herut Party leader Menahem Beigin’s book entitled “The Revolt” which tells the story of the Irgun Zvai Leumi’s struggle against the British Mandatory authorities. The Gaza Strip is still tense. Some 11 schools remain closed and will reopen only after principals and teachers cooperate in preserving order, Israeli authorities said.
