The American Jewish Congress, in a cable to Chancellor Kiesinger in Bonn, welcomed the decision of the West German Cabinet to press for abolition of the statute of limitations. Dr. Joachim Prinz of Newark, N.J., a former rabbi of Berlin expelled by Hitler for his anti-Nazi activities and currently chairman of the AJ Congress’s international affairs commission, said: “We are deeply gratified by the decision of your Cabinet…It would be unthinkable to allow the mere passage of time to purchase exoneration and immunity for those responsible for the heartless degenerate brutalities of the Hitler regime. This is a step in the long way back for the German people. We congratulate you and your associates for acting in a manner that helps redeem the past and that makes credible your announced determination not to give succor or encouragement to those who willingly served the cause of Nazism a generation ago or to those who would serve its purposes today.”
