Israel’s Ambassador, Gen. Yitzhak Rabin, has accepted an invitation from the U.S. Government to witness the launching of Apollo 11 from Cape Kennedy on July 16. The rocket will carry three American astronauts for the first attempted landing of men on the moon. Ambassador Rabin will travel to Cape Kennedy next week with other foreign diplomats who have been invited.
President Zalman Shazar of Israel will send a message in Hebrew and English to the moon with the astronauts. He was invited to do so by the National Aeronautics and Space Agency. The message is a quotation from the Book of Psalms: “Abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.”
