Becker Asks German-trade Union Leader to Intervene for Soviet Jewry

An Israeli trade union leader has asked his West German counterpart to intervene in behalf of Soviet Jews when he visits Moscow shortly. Aharon Becker, secretary general of Histadrut, made the request of Heinz Vetter, chairman of the German Trade Unions, which is sending a delegation to the Soviet Union. Mr. Becker asked Mr. Vetter to do all in his power on behalf of Soviet Jews who want to leave Russia. Mr. Vetter promised to do what he could. Mr. Becker was received by Gustav Heinemann, President of the Federal Republic today, and attended a reception in his honor given by the Israeli Ambassador, Asher Ben Nathan. Mr. Becker was scheduled to meet with Chancellor Willy Brandt tomorrow.
