Six hundred Boston University students have petitioned President Arland Christ-Janer and the trustees of the University for a major in Judaic studies. The student group is asking for courses in Jewish history, philosophy and modern Hebrew literature. It is headed by Joel Grishaver of Brookline, Mass. and Barry Shain of Philadelphia. The University presently offers courses in three levels of Hebrew language and a course entitled “Hebrew Classics in English Translation.” Enrollment for these courses is approximately 130. Next year the language courses, a course in Rabbinical Judaism, and one in Medieval Judaism will be offered by the University.
