A Foreign Ministry spokesman today rejected an Egyptian claim that the cease-fire agreement along the Suez Canal existed only within the context of the United Nations Security Council’s Nov. 22, 1967 resolution. The claim, made in Cairo yesterday, implied that the agreement was valid only if the terms of the resolution were implemented. President Gamal Abdel Nasser, of Egypt has publicly repudiated the cease-fire. The Foreign Ministry spokesman called the Cairo claim a “falsification and abrogation” of the cease-fire. He noted that the agreement dated from June, 1967 and was accepted by Egypt and other Arab governments, along with Israel in order to terminate the hostilities of the Six-Day War. The spokesman said the resolution adopted by the Security Council the following November had an entirely different context, namely to advance toward an agreement on a just and lasting peace between the Arab states and Israel.
