Competitive sports will be the big feature at Israel’s first International Youth Festival to be held July 15-Aug. 5, according to Haskell Cohen, of the National Jewish Welfare Board who is international chairman of the event. He said about 100 American boys and girls between 15 and 17 would join some 400 other Jewish youths from South America, South Africa and Israel in a variety of sporting events and tours of Israel this summer. Mr. Cohen is co-chairman of the JWB’s national basketball committee. He said sports activities at the Festival will include track and field, tennis, volleyball, ping pong, swimming, basketball, soccer and wrestling. There will also be a chess competition. The idea of the festival is to bring Jewish youth overseas into close contact with Israel and Israeli youth, Cohen said.
