Funeral services will be held today in Jerusalem. Kfar Yavneh and Haifa for the five Israelis, two men and three girls, who died Tuesday night when their jeep hit a land mine near the Hapoel Hamizrachi settlement Ramat Magshimim in the Golan Heights. The five were Benjamin Kefir. 24, secretary of the settlement, whose wife is in her last month of pregnancy; Azarya Ginsberg, 24, of Kvutzat Yavneh, who came to work in the settlement as an expert; and three 18-year-old girls from Jerusalem, Ilana Boleh, Yonah Sover and Tamar Dror, graduates of the religious secondary school Maaleh, who planned to join the settlement in a few weeks and were sightseeing in the area. The five left the settlement in a jeep to visit the sunflower plantations which were to be harvested the following day and never returned. A search by army units discovered the jeep and bodies in a ditch by the plantation road yesterday morning. Army experts said the jeep had detonated an anti-vehicle mine and the occupants must have died “almost instantly.” The Hapoel Hamizrachi settlement was the first to be established in the Golan Heights. The tragedy occurred as the settlement was observing Tisha b’Av.
