The Big Four ambassadors met for nearly two hours today at the residence of French Ambassador Jacques Kosciusko-Morizet and decided “nothing important,” according to the French Mission. The spokesman said the four had exhibited “a large measure of agreement on the substance” of their deliberations on Middle East matters, and had reaffirmed their support of the Gunnar V. Jarring peace mission. There was no disclosure of the specifics of the conference, and no statement was issued. One diplomatic source observed: “They went in impassively and they came out impassively.” The ambassadors will meet again next on Sept. 2, at the Soviet Mission. Their deputies, who are still working on a memorandum on the specifies of a peace settlement, will meet again tomorrow. M. Morizet, as the host, briefed Secretary General U Thant on the substance of the Big Four conference. Earlier, UN spokesmen reported that Dr. Jarring was “still consulting and still awaiting replies.” They declined to say what replies Dr. Jarring was awaiting or with whom, other than the representatives of Israel, Egypt and Jordan, he was consulting. The spokesmen said that Secretary General U Thant had no comment regarding Israel’s charges that Egypt was violating the cease-fire agreement.
