General Raphael Vardi, commander of military district of Samaria and Judea, this afternoon commuted to life imprisonment at hard labor the death sentences imposed on two convicted terrorists by a military court in Nablus this morning. The military court had sentenced the two Arabs to death for the murder of three Nablus residents suspected of collaborating with Israeli authorities. This was the first death sentence issued by a military tribunal in the West Bank territory. Mahmoud Alfi, 19, and Assam Elshayib, 21, were found guilty of murder, sabotage, membership in a hostile organization, and of throwing hand grenades at the military government and labor exchange buildings in Nablus. They pleaded guilty to the charges of murder and sabotage.
