Conservative MP Harold Soref has written to Home Secretary Reginald Maudling asking him to ban a public meeting scheduled to be addressed Wednesday night in Eastbourne by a member of El Fatah, the largest Palestinian guerrilla organization. The subject of the commando’s talk is “The Future of Jews in Palestine.” Mr. Soref said the meeting was likely to result in a breach of the peace and was thus subject to cancellation by the government. The meeting is a fringe event of the Liberal Party’s annual conference, although it is not an official party event. The party leader, MP Jeremy Thorpe, has publicly disavowed the sponsoring group of Young Liberals, who maintain a militant anti-Israel policy.
