Israel’s Zim Lines has joined with two of the oldest established British shipping companies in the Mediterranean trade to start a joint containership service between Israel and Britain. The weekly service will be run by Zim in conjunction with Ellerman’s Papayanni Line and the Moss-Hutchison Line. In addition, Manchester Lines, Ltd., another well known British firm, has inaugurated a rival service to Israel. The first ship in the new service, the British-flag Tua, is due at Ashdod from Liverpool this week, to be followed by the Tivor. They will offer the first fully containerized service between British and Israeli ports. The Manchester Line’s Manchester Merit is also due this week from Manchester.
