A spokesman for the student group which staged a sit-in at the offices of the Federation here told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today that his group had “withdrawn temporarily” on Saturday night while “recognizing that our demands have not yet been met.” Bruce Ballin, spokesman for the 35 members of the Jewish Education Coalition which began the sit-in on Friday morning and ended it with Havdalah on Saturday evening, said that his group had left to participate in Israel Independence Day festivities yesterday and would return next week for talks with Federation officials. The Coalition has made four demands on Federation officials for a reordering of priorities. Ballin told the JTA that Federation officials had proposed a small private meeting with four representatives of each side, and although members of his group felt a “closed” meeting was “undemocratic,” would attend nonetheless “for informational purposes.” Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Federation told the JTA that the students had been peaceful during their sit-in and left without incident.
