More than 30,000 New Jersey residents are expected to attend the first New Jersey state-wide Israel Expo-71–an Israeli cultural and trade fair–to be held here at Temple B’nai Jeshurun from the evening of May 15 through May 19. The exposition of Israeli culture and industry, sponsored by the Brotherhood of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun and Women’s Association of the Temple, is being held in cooperation with the American Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., the Israel Government Tourist Office, and El Al Israel Airlines. The purpose of Expo-Israel-71, according to Joseph Hamilton, Expo coordinator and national associate treasurer of the Zionist Organization of America, is to “promote the sale of Israel made products; to encourage tourism and to present the many cultural aspects of Israel.” The opening of the fair will be heralded by the blowing of the Shofar horn that was blown on the day that Israel became a state, May 14, 1948. The fair will offer for sale Israeli merchandise of every conceivable type. Temple B’nai Jeshurun, on two levels, will be decorated to look like an Israeli city and market, with booths, stalls, and streets to houses, displays of fine craft and arts, Erected outdoors will be an Israel-American cafe and an archaeological dig for youngsters.
