Sixty Jews in Wilna began a sit-in at Communist Party headquarters in that city last night and declared they would remain until they are told why the authorities have refused to grant exit visas to Jews who have requested them. News of the sit-in was relayed to circles in Israel by telephone today. According to the informant, the action was taken after the regional party secretary refused to meet with the Jews. The sit-ins said they would not leave the premises until they are received by the secretary or by aides of the Lithuanian Minister of Interior. Another report from the Soviet Union today said that two of the Jews convicted at the first Leningrad trial last Dec. who are now serving prison terms, asked for religious objects but were refused. The two were identified as Leib Hanoch and Joseph Mendelevitz.
