The Soviet Union was asked by the National Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs today to allow free emigration of its Jews and to end “showcase trials” and other acts of cultural repression and discrimination against its almost three million Jews. A resolution adopted by the Federation’s executive committee urged the governments of the free nations of the world, and the UN to do their utmost to influence the Soviet government to take such actions. The Federation, with almost 100,000 members in 350 Men’s Clubs in Conservative synagogues, called on “the Soviet Union to immediately cease and desist from its acts of discrimination and repression against its Jewish citizens, and to afford them their full natural and legal rights of religious freedom, cultural identity, and emigration from their Motherland.”
