The Board of Estimate of the City of New York at its last session approved a new franchise that will authorize limousine service between Williamsburg and La Guardia-Kennedy airports, according to an announcement by Rabbi Bernard Weinberger, Orthodox Jewish leader in the Williamsburg community. The franchise was granted to the Statewide Airport Transportation Corp. whose principals are Hassidic Jews who will provide the service from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Hassidic Jews have been know generally to have sought private transportation to avoid the use of the public transportation system because of the immodesty and frivolousness that prevails in the public system, Rabbi Weinberger said. The new franchise will also help connect with the already existing bus franchise operation between Boro Park and Williamsburg. This will make it possible for the heavy concentration of Jews in Boro Park and Williamsburg to have direct service to the airports. While the service is run by Hassidic Jews, it will be available to the wide public and for anyone traveling to or from the airports from Williamsburg, according to Rabbi Weinberger.
