Rogers Hopeful Recent U.S. Efforts Toward Mideast Settlement Will Have Effect

Secretary of State William P. Rogers and Assistant Secretary Joseph J. Sisco conferred with Secretary General Thant here this morning on Middle East progress, if any. Rogers, with Sisco standing by silently, told the press afterwards that the situation was too “complicated” for him to make any comment on the discussions. He added, however, that he hoped recent American efforts toward a settlement would “have an effect” on the outcome.
