The French Communist Party cancelled for all practical purposes, the stand which the Israeli Tourist Office had been expecting at the annual fair of the Communist paper “L’Humanite.” The Israel shipping company, Zim, had received some weeks ago an invitation to participate at the fair which is usually attended by several million people. Just a few hours before the stand was to open Friday, the organizers were informed by the paper’s management and the secretariat of the Communist Party, that exhibition of “propaganda material” would not be permitted. The local officials described as “propaganda” practically all the documentation and posters on show. After the Party officials indicated that their decision was “final,” the Israelis decided to dismantle their stand rather than exhibit an empty one.
