Abram Predicts Greater Soviet Jewish Emigration Following Mideast Accord

Morris B. Abram, honorary president of the American Jewish Committee and former US representative to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, has predicted that the Soviet Union eventually would find it advantageous to permit “increased emigration of those Jews who are least assimilable – those who will give the most trouble and provide leadership to others.” Abrams, speaking at a news conference at the AJCommittee’s national headquarters here following a visit to the Soviet Union where ho met with Soviet authorities and Soviet Jews, asserted that emigration will be increased when questions of the Middle East are resolved. Abram asserted that the survival of any significant number of Soviet Jews depends on the numbers permitted to leave.
