A Jewish political prisoner in Camp 3 of the Potma prison in Soviet Mordovia, Yaacov Suslensky, suffered a heart attack Dec. 5 but was denied medical care, the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry reported today. The group said the camp doctor, a woman surnamed Yegorova, told Suslensky that he was being punished for speaking Hebrew and teaching it to other inmates. The prisoner was summarily sent back to work.
The SSSJ also said that another Jewish political prisoner, Vladimir Osherovich Mogilever, was warned by an official named Pitschurin to discontinue teaching Hebrew to other inmates. The student group added that according to information received late last week, prisoner Silva Zalmanson Kuznetsov was suffering from severe hearing problems, stomach pains and vomiting.
