Reliable sources said here today that a favorable decision has been obtained in the United States on Israel’s request for more arms, apparently including Phantom jets. But the sources refused to say if any agreement on terms and delivery timetables had been reached. They said, however, that the US has yet to satisfy Israel’s request for clarification of its position on an interim agreement to reopen the Suez Canal. Nevertheless, according to these sources, Israel is not pressing the US at this time because Egypt has not yet made its reply to the American proposals.
