Rabbi Israel Miller, president of the American Zionist Federation, said today that the withdrawal of the Zionist Organization of America from the AZF was in violation of a unanimous resolution adopted by the 28th World Zionist Congress.
In a statement released to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Rabbi Miller said, The 28th World Zionist Congress, which met in Jerusalem last month, made it absolutely clear, that the Zionist Federation in each country “is the unified and comprehensive framework within which all organizations and institutions cooperate in order to plan and carry out their Zionist functions which are held in common by all of them.”
Rabbi Miller noted that the resolution was adopted unanimously by the Congress, without opposition by any of the delegates, including those who represented the ZOA. “We trust, therefore, that the ZOA will reconsider its regrettable resolution to withdraw from the AZF and will recognize the need for Zionist unity and discipline,” he said.
The AZF will proceed, Rabbi Miller added, as it has since its founding, to carry out a unified program of Zionist work in the US, while encouraging all of its constituent organizations to expand their own activities and to strengthen their respective roles within the totality of Zionist life.
