The Jerusalem Moslem Council (Wafq) protested today to the government against excavations near the Western Wall which they said were damaging Moslem religious sites and residential buildings tenanted by Arabs. The protest was contained in a memorandum delivered yesterday to Acting Premier Yigal Allon by a delegation of four prominent members of the Wafq. The delegation was the first sent by the Wafq for official talks with a high ranking government official. The excavations in question were temporarily halted recently by order of Premier Golda Meir. The group also reportedly requested tax exemption on all equipment required to renovate the El Aksa Mosque which was gutted by fire two years ago.
