A delegation representing left-wing groups and Socialist-Zionist organizations called yesterday upon Mayor John V. Lindsay and Police Commissioner Patrick V. Murphy to “use their full powers to end the terrorist activities encouraged by, or committed by the Jewish Defense League by seeing to it that those responsible for such crimes of violence suffer the full penalty of the law.”
The delegation presented this demand in the form of a resolution adopted unanimously by 400 people attending a rally March 1 to protest terrorism and the JDL. The rally was sponsored by the American Association to Combat Fascism, Racism and Anti-Semitism. The resolution cited as “terroristic crimes” the shooting into the Soviet Mission in this city on Oct. 20 and the bombing of the Sol Hurok and Columbia Artists Management offices on Jan. 26.
END KID GLOVE TREATMENT
It expressed concern with the “kid glove treatment” applied to the JDL and contended that the JDL “presents a most serious menace” to the city of New York, to the Jewish community and to the “furtherance of world peace and good relations between the United States and the Soviet Union.”
The resolution added that vigorous action by city authorities will help “sweep the terrorists” and the JDL “into the oblivion it deserves.” The groups represented included the Emma Lazarus Federation of Jewish Women’s Clubs. Jewish Cultural Clubs and Societies, the Americans for Progressive Israel-Hashomer Hatzair, Local 3 Bakery and Confectionary Workers Union, the Radical Zionist Alliance, the Committee to Commemorate the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, Yugentruf, and the American Association to Combat Fascism.
