Sudden torrential rainfalls following a heat wave flooded parts of the Negev last night cutting the main road to Eilat and stranding tourists and others for several hours. The rain, accompanied by hail, overflowed the dry river beds in the normally parched region, recalling to Israelis the Biblical phrase, “afikim banegev” (water in the Negev). The floods subsided this morning.
