Representatives of Jewish organizations walked out today during a debate on the Middle East at the conference of the United Nations Association here because a resolution submitted by the British section of the World Jewish Congress was not placed on the agenda. The resolution had been endorsed by both Israeli and Arab representatives and a similar one was adopted by the World Federation of UN Associations at its meeting last May in Luxembourg.
The banned resolution called on all parties concerned to create a just and lasting peace in the Middle East based on the principles of the Security Council’s Resolution 242. It called on all parties meanwhile to observe the international rules for the treatment of the inhabitants of occupied territories and to ensure respect for the territories of other countries and for the safety of international communications.
Mrs. Elizabeth Collard, a delegate from the Council for the Advancement of Arab-British Relations, expressed regret that the resolution was omitted and said her delegation would have supported it. John Ennals, a vice-president of the World Federation of United Nations Associations also said he regretted the removal of the resolution from the agenda.
