Prof. Heinrich Homann, a 61-year-old former Nazi Party member who was trained in Moscow after World War II, has been elected chairman of East Germany’s National Democratic Party at its recent conference in Potsdam, it was reported here today. Homann replaces Luther Bolz who was party chairman since it was formed 20 years ago.
East Germany’s National Democratic Party was established for the purpose of organizing former Nazi officers and party members into a special faction to support the East German regime. The party often uses the vocabulary of Nazi anti-Semitism in condemning Zionists and the State of Israel. It bears no relation to West Germany’s neo-Nazi National Democratic Party (NPD) which is bitterly anti-Communist.
