JERUSALEM (May. 15)
About 43,000 students from all of Israel’s Institutions of higher learning, went on strike today to protest a raise in tuition fees from $250 to $600 recommended by the Ministry of Education. Most campuses were shut down. Libraries were closed and seminars were banned as student leaders took to microphones to exhort their fellow students. Leaders of the National Students Union met with representatives of the Education Ministry at noon.
