Five members of the United States Maccabi Association have been named to the organizing committee of the US Jewish Olympic Team that will participate in the Ninth World Maccabiad (Jewish Olympics) in Tel Aviv in July 1973. Sol Leiber. president of the US Maccabi Association, said in announcing the appointments that the USMA planned a nationwide fundraising drive to make the Maccabiad both a financial and an athletic success. Leiber, a New York businessman who used to play professional basketball for the Detroit Clowns, was elected USMA chief earlier this month.

He also named a chairman and committees to prepare for USMA participation in the World Maccabi Union’s Youth Sports and Cultural Jamboree, to be held in conjunction with the Maccabiad, and launched a campaign to enlist more than 100,000 American Jewish youths in the “sound mind and sound body” program of the US Maccabi movement. The movement’s beneficiaries include the Orde Wingate Institute for Physical Education and Sports in Natanya, Israel. Leiber said a committee would seek funds to help the Institute operate for the next five years. A part-time national executive secretary will be named soon.
