Dr. Moses Rosen, Chief Rabbi of Rumania, who is in the US on a brief visit, was honored here today by the Appeal of Conscience Foundation. Leaders of the Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Greek Orthodox and Christian Science faiths joined with business leaders at a reception for the Rumanian Jewish leader. Rabbi Arthur Schneier, president of the Foundation and rabbi of Park East synagogue, cited the Chief Rabbi as a courageous spiritual leader who has worked steadfastly for the welfare of Rumania’s 100,000 Jews and one who has promoted inter-religious understanding in Rumania and with religious leaders abroad.
Corneliu Bogdan, Rumania’s Ambassador to the United States, and Ion Datcu, the Rumanian Ambassador to the United Nations, joined in the tribute. Bogdan announced that, at the invitation of the Rumanian Government, Rabbi Schneier will head an interfaith delegation of religious and business leaders to Rumania on June 21 for the dedication of a Theratron 80 cobalt machine for the treatment of cancer, a gift of the American-Rumanian Flood Relief Committee.
Rabbi Rosen was received yesterday in Washington by Carl Albert, Speaker of the House. Rabbi Rosen was the guest of honor at a luncheon given by Bogdan.
