The Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture allocated $1,931,369 for Jewish cultural projects in 13 countries and elected officers and a new executive committee at the closing session of its annual Board of Trustees meeting here today.

Recipients of the monies to be allocated during 1972-73 are in France, Belgium, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Rumania, Britain, Yugoslavia, Brazil, Chile, Israel, Canada and the United States. Dr. Nahum Goldmann, elected president of the Foundation said he would appoint two committees of experts to study possible improvements in procedures and to explore new directions with respect to allocation policies. Dr. Goldmann said, “I don’t think we should only react to applications; perhaps we should ourselves initiate new projects based on new ideas.” He said the Memorial Foundation “should be a creative factor in Jewish life and not merely make allocations. Perhaps the time has come to take more initiatives.”

Elected vice-presidents of the Memorial Foundation were Dr. Solomon Gaon; Louis A. Pincus; and Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz. Louis Stern was elected treasurer and Shad Polier secretary. Arnulf M. Pins is executive director.

El Al maintenance workers went on a slowdown strike today, causing serious delays of flights at Lydda Airport.
