Druse Named to Post in Washington Embassy

Zeidan Atshe, a 32-year-old Druse political scientist from Haifa, has been appointed as Israeli Consul to New York in charge of information, the Foreign Ministry announced today. An assistant lecturer at Haifa University and correspondent on Israeli television, Atshe plans to take up his new post August 15.

Until recently Atshe was executive secretary of the Arab and Druse section of the Noar Oved, a youth movement in the Israeli Labor Party. A graduate from Haifa University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science, the new consul is married and has three children.

The 25,000-ton Zim Haifa, the first container ship to bear an Israeli flag, is scheduled to leave a Genoa shipyard on its maiden voyage to New York on Aug. 7.
