The British Board of Jewish Deputies today cabled Mrs. Vladimir Markman expressing the Board’s shock at the three-year “strict regime” sentence meted out to her husband in Sverdlovsk yesterday and assured her of its continued efforts on behalf of Soviet Jewry. The Board also sent a message of strong protest to the Soviet ambassador in London. A number of other Jewish organizations here also sent telegrams of sympathy to Mrs. Markman.
Meanwhile, the Committee of 35, a women’s group campaigning for Soviet Jewry, the Universities Committee for Soviet Jewry and Herut held a protest cavalcade through London. The procession finished at the Soviet Embassy, where a demonstration for Soviet Jews was held and a letter handed for delivery to the ambassador.
