The B’nai B’rith of Canada urged the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) currently meeting in London, to adopt a convention sponsored by the US and Canada that would impose a boycott on any country harboring or otherwise supporting terrorists.
In a statement released here today, Sydney Maislin, president of the Canadian B’nai B’rith, called on Canada’s Foreign Minister for a renewed effort to secure positive action by the ICAO on the measure. “If terrorism is not to be commonplace, the criminal hijackers are to be curbed, nations must out through political and legal argument inhibiting international action,” Maislin said.
The US-Canadian draft calls for airline boycotts “against countries that offer sanctuary to hijackers; fail to return pirated aircraft, passengers and crew; and do not either punish the criminals or send them back to the country where the flight originated.” Maislin noted that “It is a sad commentary that on the very day of the Munich tragedy (last Tuesday) the ICAO reportedly failed to agree on an effective treaty.”
