A course on North American Judaism in its various religious and historical dimensions will be given this year in the Department of Theological Studies at Loyola by Prof. David Rome, historian and librarian and author of several books dealing with Jews in Canada. The course, which is recommended to all registered students, continues a tradition established in the Department of Theological Studies. The exploration of Jewish traditions is intended to benefit both Christians and Jews by surveying the various phenomena of contemporary Judaism. Various scholars and spokesmen will be invited to present shades of theology and a multiplicity of emphasis and communal concerns.

Rabbi Gilbert Klaperman endorsed President Nixon for reelection and expressed gratitude for his support to Israel as stated in the Daily News Bulletin Sept. 15. However, Rabbi Klaperman did not praise Nixon’s intervention on behalf of Soviet Jewry as reported in the same story but stated that “the Jewish community looks to you for a direct affirmation of your intervention on behalf of Soviet Jewry….All freedom loving Americans would approve such a statement to strengthen their faith in our democracy.”
