Israeli sources said here today that Israel will not engage in any negotiations for a political settlement in the Middle East before the Arab terrorists such as those who perpetrated the massacre of Israeli Olympic athletes are “eliminated.”
As long as Arab countries are not coping with the terrorists, “we are not going to talk about any political settlement,” the highly-placed Israeli sources said. “We can wait. We are not going to wait for the terrorists to strike. We will deal with them wherever we find them.” The sources added that “the only way to bring about real peace is to eliminate terror. The public in Israel wants to go all the way to eliminate the terrorists.” The Israeli sources declined to say how, when or where “we will act” against the terrorists.
These remarks came shortly before Israeli Foreign Minister Abba Eban was scheduled to arrive in New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly. Eban is to meet tomorrow with Secretary of State William P. Rogers at the State Department and then return to New York. Rogers is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Monday.
