Leopold Trepper, chief of the “Red Orchestra” during World War II, has ordered his wife, now residing in this city, not to make any plans at this time to return to Poland. In a telephone conversation from Warsaw. Trepper referred to certain ominous signs and warned her that “the time was not right” for her to rejoin him. Last month Trepper received permission from the Polish government to attend the 30th anniversary celebration of the “Red Orchestra” in East Germany. There he discussed with the East German Minister of Information the refusal of Poland’s government to allow him to emigrate to Israel. The East German official told Trepper that an effort had been made by former “Red Orchestra” members to plead his cause but that the Soviet response had been, “We cannot interfere in Poland’s internal affairs.”
