Three Brussels Airport guards wearing Arab headgear and carrying rifles wandered unhindered around the busy airport for a half hour today before they were arrested by the authorities. The three said they donned the disguises to demonstrate the lack of adequate security measures at the airport.

They said they moved freely around the aircraft on the runway and in vital airport installations, stopping from time to time to photograph each other in threatening poses. They said they were “disgusted by the negligence of the airport authorities.”

The men, paratroopers who have been assigned to guard the airport entrances, face a severe dressing down by their superiors. But they said, “At least we have proven the ineffectiveness of security measures to stop real terrorists who, unlike us, are extremely discreet.”
