A government spokesman implied criticism of the escalation of warfare in Vietnam. Minister-Without-Portfolio Israel Galili said yesterday in a speech to the Lawyers Club that Israel was opposed to warfare anywhere in the world, not only for humanistic reasons but for her own national interests.
Galili, a member of the Labor Party’s inner circle and a close confidant of Premier Golda Meir, said he was “convinced that Israeli and Jewish interests are basically intertwined with the preservation of peace in this region (the Middle East) and throughout the world because anti-Israel and anti-Jewish pressure always seems to heighten in time of war.”
