The future of Zionist activity all over the world depends on the successful handling of the Soviet Jewish emigration to Israel, according to delegates-attending a meeting of the Labor Zionist Secretariate here this weekend.
They said that the focus of Zionist activity in diaspora communities is on Russian Jewry. This struggle involves many Jewish circles that heretofore remained aloof from any Jewish activity and therein lies its importance to the Zionist movement which is based fundamentally on aliya, the Labor Zionist delegates said.
The Secretariate also discussed the problems of Jewish youth and students in the diaspora which will be a major item on the agenda of the next Zionist Executive meeting in Jerusalem next month. Itzhak Korn, secretary general of the Labor Zionist Movement, proposed a 25 percent increase in the Zionist budget–an addition of $7.6 million–for extensive work among Jewish youth and students.
