Italian police held two Palestinians for what sources said is questioning in connection with the bombing of a crude oil storage center at Trieste last August. The Palestin ians had been living in Carcano, a small town in northern Italy and brought to Milan for preliminary questioning. Police sources said they were being transferred to Rome for further questioning by the State Intelligence Service.
Officially the cause of their arrest is that they allegedly were found in possession of a stolen automobile and were carrying stolen goods. The Palestinians were identified as Mohammed Adib Sadat Salem Hussein, 31, who is married to an Italian woman and has two daughters, and Taleb Talab el Jabbari, 43, a resident of Amman, Jordan. Using a key found in el Jabbari’s pocket, police opened a locker at Milan railroad station and recovered a roll of color film showing scenes in Milan and Amman and a bunch of newspaper clips concerning the recent murder in Rome of a Jordanian citizen, police sources said.
Interviewed at her home by the newspaper “La Stampa, Hussein’s wife, Fulvia, 34, said both she and her husband had worked for Yassir Arafat and the Palestinian Liberation Organization, but denied he was linked with terrorist activities. She was quoted as saying he had been in Trieste last August for a hernia operation, but had played no part in the bombing, which police believe was the work of the Black September organization. She said her husband had lived quietly for the past year and supported his family by giving English lessons. According to her, el Jabbari arrived at her home about 20 days ago in search of food and lodging after his residence permit in Italy expired.
