Three Tel Aviv area youths have been arrested for breaking into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem Friday, injuring a priest and stealing a religious article, police-disclosed today. One of them, Yarom Landsberger, 22, was remanded in custody for six days after a court appearance this morning. The identities of the other two were not disclosed. They are to appear in court tomorrow.
The youths have not been charged formally. Police said they are suspected of breaking into the church and injuring an American Franciscan priest, Francis Kurza, 58. He underwent surgery Friday for fractures of the wrist and leg and was reported in a satisfactory condition. Police said the intruders stole a glass enclosed plaque from the top of a statue of Jesus. Church officials said the plaque had no monetary value.
