Israel Expo-73, an eight-day fair marking Israel’s 25th anniversary is expected to attract up to 100,000 visitors, Consul General Ehud Lador of Israel told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today. The fair, sponsored by Temple Emanu El of Houston, features a replica of a Jerusalem street and a 17,x 38 foot model of the Western Wall. It will open officially Saturday night and will close on May 6, the eve of Israel’s Independence Day.
Lador told the JTA that the opening will also serve as a memorial observance of the 30th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. He said the inaugural ceremonies for Israel Expo-73 will be addressed by Sen. Henry M.Jackson (D.Wash.) and Zvi Brosh, information minister at the Israeli Embassy in Washington. Mayor Louis Weich of Houston will participate in the opening and Texas Gov. Dolph Briscoe is expected to visit the fair.
Lador, Israeli Consul General for the Southwestern U.S., said the fair will feature a wide variety of Israeli products; entertainment will be provided by Israeli artists; and there will also be lectures on Israeli achievements in science, industry, medicine and archaeology. Dewey. Compton, a local radio commentator whose specialty is agriculture, will broadcast daily from the fair describing his recent visit to agricultural settlements in Israel.
