Japanese ambassadors in 15 Middle East countries will meet here July 9-11 to review recent developments in the region centering on the oil problem, the Foreign Ministry announced today.
According to The Japan Times, the meeting will be the first time in three years that the envoys will get together to discuss the situation in the states to which they are assigned. The countries include Israel, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Sudan and the oil-producing Persian Gulf states.
The Japan Times reported that Yasuhiro Nakasone, the Minister of International Trade and Industry, has visited such oil producing countries as Iran, Saudi Arabian, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi, but not Iraq which has a leftist regime and is taking a cautious attitude toward Japan on the oil issue.
Bearing in mind that the Middle East situation changes rapidly, the government plans to reassess its policy toward that region. The Times said.
