The Arab states have taken another major step toward their goal of denying Latin American political support to Israel by organizing the region’s large Arab communities It was reported today by the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith. A newly created Federation of Arab Entities of the Americas will create

Arab roof organizations in each Latin American country and serve as the coordinating body for these national FEARAB groups in Latin America according to the report.

The decision to create FEARAB-America was taken at a meeting of the First Arab Pan American Congress, convened in Buenos Aires in Oct. by the government of Syria, B’nai B’rith reported. The resolution of the Congress calling for the creation of the continental FEARAB America described it as “the link with the Arab countries, transmitting to the Federations all of their instructions and desires.” The Arab population in Latin America, variously estimated at around 3 million, is considerably larger than the Jewish population of approximately 850,000. Arab propagandists have, in the past, progressed slowly in their efforts to convert the Arab population into partisans of the Arab cause in the Middle East.

The First Arab Pan American Congress adopted a 15-point program, some of which involved cultural programs such as the establishment of friendship houses, Arab universities, and the sending of government officials to visit Arab countries, according to B’nai B’rith. Other programs are designed, to intensify the use of economics as a weapon in the Arab nations’ battle to win the political support of the Latin American governments. Their plan calls for the creation of investment and security firms, Arab national banks, Arab-National Chambers of Commerce in each country.

The roster of dignitaries who attended the Congress included the ambassadors from Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan as well as a special representative of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia.
